If you’re looking to install a new set of smart LED light bulbs in your [city] home, you’re probably not sure where to start, what with so many options currently on the market. Smart LEDs, as you know, have the ability to change color, dim their light output, connect to your Wi-Fi network, and switch on and off automatically. And that’s all while being energy-efficient and long lasting, to boot.

But as with all other products, not all smart bulbs are built the same way. To help you narrow down your choices, here are 4 smart LED bulbs that have all gotten high reviews on from users and industry experts.

Philips Hue White

The Philips Hue White is an affordable alternative to Philips’ massively popular Hue bulbs. Marketed as a starter smart bulb, the Hue White generates a soft white light that you can control and dim remotely via the Philips Hue app in your phone or tablet.

Built as a replacement for 60-watt incandescent bulbs, the Hue White boasts of a lifespan of over 20 years, plus standard smart features such as dimmability, timers/scheduling, geofencing, and voice control. The catch, however, is that these smart bulbs require you to buy a separate Philips Hue Bridge to interface with your local wireless network.

C by GE Starter Pack

The C by GE Starter Pack offers a set of four smart bulbs you can connect through Bluetooth and control in any part of your home (as long as they’re in range) using the sleek and easy-to-use GE app. These bulbs don’t require a hub, are easy to set up, and give off a very bright light (approximately 800 lumens).

The downside is that the C by GE Starter Pack bulbs don’t have Wi-Fi and oddly, no scheduling options. You also can’t integrate these bulbs with other smart LEDs and they only work with iOS. Still, you are getting a lot for four smart bulbs that costs only $74.99.

GE Link Connected LED

Before the GE Link Connected LED Bulbs came along, the market had yet to see a truly affordable smart bulb. The A19 60W Soft White Single Bulb costs just $15.00 a pop and comes with Wi-Fi connectivity, a 20+-year lifespan, full scheduling options, and 80% improved efficiency over traditional light bulbs. It doesn’t hurt that the GE Link LED bulbs are among the most attractive smart bulbs on the market.

These bulbs are relatively simple to set up, but they require a separate hub to control multiple bulbs.

MiPow Playbulb Color

The MiPow Playbulb Color is the perfect smart LED bulb for anyone who wants to create dazzling light effects in their [city] home.

Not only does this bulb let you choose from a million different colors and shades of white light, it also has a built-in Bluetooth speaker, allowing you to play music (or listen to an audiobook) in any corner of your home. The MiPow Playbulb also has a scene setting allowing you to choose different colors of light to create a dramatic atmosphere in your living spaces.

The Bluetooth speaker sounds good and you don’t need a hub to connect multiple lights. Apart from a few comments about the app being sluggish, the MiPow Playbulb Color makes for a fantastic smart bulb and conversation starter.

With so many brands out there, choosing which smart bulb to buy can be confusing. Your best bet is to pick any of these smart LEDs and buy one to three bulbs, installing them in high-traffic areas of your home. This will allow you to evaluate their performance and see if they’re worth keeping or not.
